What pigeonrace.net collects, what we do with it, and who else is involved.

Who we are

pigeonrace.net is run by Mick Rippon and Stan Rippon (ABN 34 420 019 014). Clubs and federations across Australia use it to run their races and publish their results. If you have a question about anything on this page, get in touch:

What race results show

When a club or federation publishes a race, the results show each flyer’s name and club, the distance from the liberation point to their loft, their birds’ ring numbers and colours, arrival times, velocities, placings and points. Clubs can also publish race reports, photos and videos.

Results are public. Anyone can read and search them, and they stay online as the club’s history.

What clubs keep that is never published

To run their races, clubs keep each flyer’s address, phone number and loft location in pigeonrace.net. Addresses and phone numbers are never shown publicly, and on results maps a loft is only ever shown roughly, to within about a kilometre.

Changing or removing results

Your club or federation decides what it publishes. If something about you is wrong, or you would like it taken down, please speak to your club. If you get stuck, contact us and we will help.

Ads

pigeonrace.net uses Google AdSense, which can show ads on the site. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads, and those ads can be based on your visits to this and other websites.

You can turn off personalised ads in Google’s ad settings, and opt out of personalised ads from many other companies at aboutads.info. To see how Google uses information from websites like this one, visit Google’s explanation.

Counting visitors

To see how busy the site is, your browser keeps a random code in its own storage. It lets us count how many people visit each club’s pages each day. It isn’t linked to your name, our copy of it is deleted within three days, and we keep only the totals.

Club pages and Google Analytics

Each club’s and federation’s pages also use Google Analytics. It uses cookies to tell us which club’s pages people read and which parts of the site they use, such as the velocity calculator, printing results or searching for races. It is never sent the names you search for. You can block it with Google’s opt-out add-on for your browser.

Crash reports

If the site breaks on your device, a short error report goes to Amazon Web Services so we can fix it: what went wrong, on which page, and your type of browser and device. It uses two small cookies that hold random codes, not anything about you.

Other things your browser remembers

If you use the velocity calculator, your browser remembers which flyer you picked; the live results screen remembers your settings; and if you close our note about pigeonrace.net, your browser remembers not to show it again. These stay on your device.

Videos

Some race reports and galleries include YouTube videos. They use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, but once you play one, YouTube (Google) may store cookies of its own.

Our pages about pigeonrace.net

The pages that explain what pigeonrace.net does, and how to reach us, use Google Analytics. It uses cookies to tell us how many people read them and how they found us. You can block it with Google’s opt-out add-on for your browser.

Asking us to call you back

If you ask us to call you back, your name, number and note go to Mick as a text message, through touchSMS, an Australian text message service. We don’t keep them anywhere else. To stop the form being misused, we keep a scrambled form of your phone number and internet (IP) address for up to two days, only to count requests.

If you contact us

If you call, text or email us, we use your details to reply to you.

Club and federation officials

If you have an admin login:

  • we keep your username and a scrambled form of your password, and your browser keeps three cookies while you are logged in;
  • we record what is changed in the admin, by whom and when, so problems can be traced;
  • we keep the contact details your club or federation gives us, any feedback you send us, and billing records, and we sometimes text club contacts through touchSMS;
  • the map picker uses Google Maps, and the tool that tidies up page layouts uses Amazon’s AI service, which may handle that page’s text in another Asia-Pacific country;
  • if we meet online, the video call runs on Whereby.

Where it is kept

Our database and main systems run on Amazon Web Services in Sydney, and pages reach you through Amazon’s worldwide network. Google (ads, analytics, videos and maps) and some of the other services above may handle information in other countries, including the United States.

How long we keep it

  • Race results stay online as each club’s history.
  • Logs from the parts of the site you use are deleted after 30 days.
  • The visitor code and the call back records are deleted as described above.

Keeping it safe

The site is only served over an encrypted connection, admin passwords are stored only in scrambled form, and access to the systems behind it is limited to us.

Your choices

  • You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it.
  • You can block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings. The results pages still work without them.
  • We don’t sell your information.

If anything here changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
